New Year’s Resolution: Healthy Eating

0

It’s no secret that obesity is a major problem in the United States and easy availability of fast food is the main culprit. Every day at lunchtime American workers shuffle out of the cubicles and head off for a sodium and fat loaded lunch that’s adding inches to their waistlines, even as it slowly kills of their health and wellness.

If you’re looking to get off of the junk food carousel, you’ve probably added, “Pack a healthy lunch,” to your New Year’s resolutions. Unfortunately, most of these resolutions will be dead in the water by the time February rolls around. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Here are a few helpful tips for adding healthy eating to your daily routine.

The first step towards healthy eating habits is making certain that your kitchen is ready for the influx of fresh fruits and vegetables that are heading that way. You’ll want to stock up on food containers that can hold plenty of chopped vegetables and other items that can be pre-prepared.

Along with those containers, you’ll definitely want to invest in at least one high quality kitchen knife and a sharpener to go along with it. Creating freshly prepared meals is going to take a little more time than just grabbing some fast food and a good knife can help cut preparation time.

Once you’ve got your kitchen prepared, you’ll want to take a trip to your local library to check out new recipes in as many cookbooks as you can get your hands on. Even the smallest library will have a decent selection of cookbooks that are designed with working people in mind. Take a few of these books home and test drive a few recipes. Once you’ve found a book with a few good recipes you’ll use on a regular basis, you can go out and buy a copy for yourself.

We won’t lie to you, crafting healthy lunches from scratch is going to be very time consuming, especially at first. We understand that all that chopping, slicing and dicing is a little intimidating at first. But the more you practice at it, the more efficient you’ll become.

You’ll be surprised at what an impact healthy lunch boxes can have on your whole family. In fact, it won’t be too long before you’ll wonder how you ever ate all greasy, gross fast food in the first place.
